ABOUT CHEMWEST TEACHER NETWORK
ChemWest, a nonprofit organization founded in 1985 that serves as a networking vehicle for chemistry teachers in the Midwest.
Our meetings provide a forum for the dissemination of chemistry information, ideas, materials, methodologies, and safety regulations. In other words we are committed to "teachers sharing with teachers."
The geographical area served by the group includes Chicago and the suburban area. We have regularly attending members from six Illinois counties and metropolitan Chicago. Our mailing list includes over 400 pre-college and college chemistry teachers, and others interested in chemical education. We meet at various high schools, colleges, and industries in the area. Attendance at the monthly meetings has been between 35-150 teachers. We continue to publish the Periodic Cable, the monthly newsletter of ChemWest which keeps members informed of area and national meetings, new ideas and materials developed and presented by ChemWest participants
Our Philosophy
ChemWest is all about teachers sharing demonstrations, labs and lessons with each other. We are also interested in exciting students about STEM career opportunties that are out there for them.
